Cancer Awareness Day (India) falls on November 7, reminding us to continue spreading awareness about cancer, including prevention and treatment. This cause is an important one for Ronald McDonald House India.
Many of you know about the care centres Ronald McDonald House India has set up for families of patients in need within and outside hospitals and medical centres, completely free of charge. Called the Ronald McDonald House Family Room, this space is for patients and their caregivers where they can relax and spend time together – in a hygienic environment with the latest facilities and medical staff close by. We have a Family Room within the Outpatient Department of Paediatric Haematology/Oncology at Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children in Mumbai, and a second one at Government Cancer Hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad).
Furthering the commitment to lending support to patients and their families, the FIRST Ronald McDonald House in India was recently opened in Mumbai. Ronald McDonald House exists to support families travelling to Mumbai from across Maharashtra and neighbouring Indian states for their children’s medical journeys. Located in Mahim (West), close to leading paediatric hospitals, the 3,200 square foot Ronald McDonald House has 15 fully furnished private rooms and can support more than 500 families annually. Families are provided with complimentary accommodation, nutritious meals, hospital transport, counselling, and 24/7 support from dedicated staff, enabling them to focus entirely on their child’s recovery journey. Shared amenities include a communal kitchen, play areas and spaces designed to foster connection and comfort.
