With a clear purpose of caring for families with children who are ill or injured, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) India has expanded to a newer space with a Family Room. With the realization that more kids and their families could benefit from spaces that offer care and compassion, RMHC India’s second family room opened recently at the Government Cancer Hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, formerly known as Aurangabad.
It was recognized that thousands of families from the Marathwada region often couldn’t travel to Mumbai for treatment. Many would seek care at this government cancer hospital. To meet their needs, RMHC India partnered with the hospital to bring comfort closer to home. This Family Room now serves families not only from Marathwada but also those from Vidarbha and border regions of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
The Family Room is located on the first floor of the Paediatric Department where it continues to uphold the promise of a peaceful retreat for families while their children receive treatment for Cancer. With a comfortable waiting area, rest zones, and clean, child-friendly play spaces, the room is created in a way to ease the emotional and physical burdens of long hospital stays, allowing families to recharge and stay strong for their loved ones.

It has been a long journey of extending care to families in need. In 2016, RMHC India opened its first Family Room in Mumbai, in partnership with Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital. The Ronald McDonald Family Room (RMFR) was set up within the Outpatient Department of Paediatric Haematology/Oncology at Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children in Mumbai – a special space set up for children undergoing cancer treatment and their caregivers. This space has offered comfort and influenced thousands of lives. Annually, it is used more than 3,000 times by children and their loved ones and is supported by a dedicated community of volunteers who bring compassion and care to life.
The valued partnerships with hospitals like Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital and Government Cancer Hospital are creating revered spaces of love, care, and strength for families in their most vulnerable moments. It is in these spaces that patients and their caregivers can relax, participate in activities in the play area, read books, have refreshments in a hygienically maintained environment with the latest facilities and medical staff, close by.
These Family Rooms serve as lifelines of hope, offering comfort when needed most. RMHC India is happy to be a part of many lives, in more ways than one can imagine.
