We believe that Earth is Planet A, all the way 💚🌏💙 April 22, Earth Day, is a good time to take stock of our collective efforts when it comes to preserving the planet.
The need of the hour are solutions that consider the causes of climate change while combatting them effectively. We’ve been committed to doing our bit. Replace > Recycle > Reuse > Reduce form the core of McDonald’s India’s sustainability practices.
- We’re striving to reach Net Zero GHG emissions by 2050.
- We run Energy Management Systems (EMS) in our restaurants that help convert used cooking oils into bio-diesel for use in our trucks! 👍🏽
- Temperature cloud controllers are used to create the desired control temperature whilst maintaining the air-conditioning.
- Auto on/off controllers are used across high energy-consuming kitchen equipment in our restaurants.
- We use Piped Natural Gas to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. We use evaporative air-cooling kitchen systems and economisers.
- We use LED bulbs and order assembly table sets, and we’ve installed solar rooftop panels in select McDonald’s restaurants. We’re working to expand this, keeping in mind the Earth Day 2025 key focus, Clean Electricity. P.S. We also have motion sensors in the back areas of our stores to control lighting consumption wastage.
- We’ve reduced our carbon footprint + enhanced operational and cost efficiencies.
- Water-wise, we have waterless urinals + low-flow aerator sprays in our restaurants to reduce our water consumption. Reverse osmosis (RO) reject water is repurposed for use in our restaurants’ rest-rooms.
Other ways that McDonald’s India considers our planet ✅
We believe in local produce as the way forward, thereby reducing import costs and wastage. Global Good Agriculture Practices Farm Standards are followed across the fresh produce farms that we work with. FYI, we use Rainforest Alliance Certified coffee beans.
Do you know that we’ve eliminated single-use consumer-facing plastic packaging? Our customer-facing packaging is made of biodegradable corn starch and FSC®-certified paper. Single-use plastic has been replaced with wood, PLA, and paper alternatives. When you order our cold beverages online, you receive them in EZ delivery bottles. ♻️
Lovin’ Planet Earth means everything, RN
Our conservation efforts need to be about considering the impacts of climate change, followed by implementing measures and policies that tackle how to prevent climate change, going forward. We encourage you to stay dedicated to your efforts. Share your ideas in our comments’ section 👇🏽
