Ketchup on a placemat, doodles on a placemat, even calculations on a placemat. But, how about some symphony on a placemat? McDonald’s in the Netherlands has introduced McTrax, a placemat that lets customers play their tunes while eating.
Created by TBWA/Neboko, the placemat uses conductive ink, a small battery and a thin circuit board with 26 digital touchpoints.
All you need to do is place your phone on the mat, get an app and compose music or record your own voice. The phone, which is simply used as a speaker and screen, is connected to the placemat through Bluetooth.
“This is exactly what McDonald’s is; a place to have fun and experience great moments, for everyone,” says Erwin Dito, director of marketing, communications and consumer insight for McDonald’s Netherlands.
