Huzza for our MULTI-MILLET BUN, launched across McDonald’s India outlets in West and South with the very special Sanjeev Kapoor himself!

Your favourite brand has partnered with the prestigious food technology research institute, CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), under the central Ministry of Science & Technology, to launch this ground-breaking product.

Now, even Sanjeev Kapoor is all excited about this initiative and says – “That’s My McDonald’s!”

The legendary Indian Chef and Padma Shri Sanjeev Kapoor is among the most renowned names in the culinary industry. Known for his expertise in promoting millet, Chef Kapoor was the first person to prepare Millet Khichdi for the President of India. His collaboration with McDonald’s India highlights his commitment to promoting nutritious and wholesome food choices among the customers.

But first, The McDonald’s India Multi-Millet Bun?

The new Multi-Millet bun allows customers to enjoy the same signature taste from their favourite burgers from the classic McAloo Tikki to the fiery McSpicy Paneer, with an added-on goodness of millets. This innovative bun, featuring a blend of five major and minor millets – Bajra, Ragi, Jowar, Proso, and Kodo – marks a significant milestone in McDonald’s India’s ongoing ‘Real Food Real Good’ journey. Renowned for their nutritional benefits, these superfoods are sourced from diverse parts of the country, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, also reflecting McDonald’s India’s commitment to local and sustainable sourcing.

Millets are a group of cereal grains with health benefits like lowering blood sugar (millets possess a low glycemic index) and cholesterol levels. They are naturally gluten-free and a great addition to any diet, just ask Mom! ❤️

And listen in to what Chef Sanjeev Kapoor had to say, “I am excited to be a part of this unique and thoughtful initiative by McDonald’s India to launch the Multi-Millet Bun. As someone who has been passionate about promoting the goodness of millet, I was captivated to see McDonald’s India embarked on a journey to provide more nutritional and mindful eating choices to its customers.”

A millet looks like a seed with nutritional attributes similar to sorghum (Indian millet/jowar) and other cereals. They’re small, round whole grains with high protein, fibre, and antioxidant content.

2023 was the International Year of Millets with a purpose to enhance the visibility of and total acceptance of millet-based products. Millets create a sustainable ecosystem for growers and processors. They survive in harsh environments and less fertile soil with low water and input requirements. They can also resist droughts and pests! These properties stem from their genetic composition, size and hardness.

Millet crops have two categories –

Major: pearl or bajra (widely produced variety intended for human consumption), foxtail, finger (ragi) AND Minor: Kodo, proso, barnyard, little, Guinea, browntop, fonio, adlay (Job’s tears).

What do millets taste like?

Millets are starchy grains – rich in carbs, vitamins and minerals including essential amino acids. They have a high calcium content, especially the ragi variety.
